Designed to meet the needs of events looking for smaller ensembles, Gretchen and the Sidecar Special is a four-piece small combo featuring piano or guitar, bass, drums, and vocals. The band’s smaller size allows for more flexibility depending on an event’s needs and a more intimate sound. While the Sidecar Special is still geared towards dancers and primarily focuses on jazz standards of the 30s and 40s, it also explores the sounds of a wider era, drawing inspiration from traditional jazz of the late 20s and early 30s, as well as the later 40s and even early 50s. Relying heavily on vocal numbers, the group’s repertoire features the work of many theatrical composers such as Rodgers and Hart, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Lerner and Lowe, and more. Depending on your event’s needs, the Sidecar Special can also be expanded to a quintet or pared down to a trio. The Sidecar Special has been featured at events such as Gottaswing’s Friday Nights at the Hilton, Lindy Central PA’s Rhythm Lounge, and Philly Frish Fry.
